Swim Challenges

Throughout the year, the Y offers swim challenges that mimic actual events held in various parts of the world.

The challenges run for multiple weeks, and miles are earned by swimming laps at the Central Y and Davis Family Y pools.

25 Miles • Two Countries • One Legend

Our 3rd Challenge Swim in 2026 is the Search of Memphré Distance Swim, a 25 mile international swim along the length of Lake Memphremagog between Newport, Vermont, USA, and Magog, Quebec, Canada. What out for the legendary monster Memphré will you swim!

Those accepting the challenge will attempt to swim the 25 mile distance over the 9-week timeframe. Challengers track their laps at the Davis Y and Central Y pools toward the goal of 44,000 yds (880 laps) from September 14 through November 9.

To celebrate our not getting eaten by Memphré, registrants receive a Lake Memphremagog 3.5 Inch Wood Magnet.
